Hospital Wing
Harry, Ron, and Hermione all spent time in the hospital wing, which appeared to be on the first floor in the first two books, but then was moved to the third floor in the later books.
Within the hospital wing, the authority of Madam Poppy Pomfrey - the Healer - was absolute. Not only did she have full authority over her student patients, she also took charge with the teachers, and has even instructed Professor Dumbledore and the Minister of Magic: "Minister! Professor! I must insist that you leave. … Potter is my patient, and he should not be distressed!" [POA21]. As such, Madam Pomfrey was not one to be trifled with; she knew what is best for her patients. However, although she was very strict, she was also very kind and never asked too many awkward questions.
The hospital wing is entered through double doors, and it is a large dormitory that has beds with white linen sheets lined up on two sides of the walls; The Healer's office and her living quarters are adjacent. Students and staff who are injured or ill can go to the hospital wing, where most illnesses and injuries can be healted. However, for more serious or long-term injuries or illness, a student or staff member is sent to St. Mungo's Hospital; for example, Professor McGonagall after she was stunned [OOTP32] and Katie Bell when she touched the cursed opal necklace [HBP12].
Madame Pomfrey couldn't heal everything: for example, she couldn't heal Dumbledore's black and dead-looking hand because there are injuries that can't be cured - old curses, Dark magic, or poisons with no antidotes [HBP8].
To name just a few, during Harry's time at Hogwarts, Madame Pomfrey has:
· Fixed Neville's broken wrist "in about a minute" [PS/SS9].
· Cured Ron when his hand swelled up and went green - a dragon injury [PS/SS14].
· Took care of Harry for three days after he met Quirrell/Voldemort [PS/SS17].
· Used Pepperup Potion to cure colds [COS8].
· Regrew Harry's arm bones after Professor Lockhart accidentally removed them [COS10].
· Cured Hermione when she partially turned herself into a cat with Polyjuice Potion [COS12].
· Brewed the potion to cure the petrified Hermione, Colin Creevey, Penelope Clearwater, Justin Finch-Fletchley, and Mrs Norris - although it's unclear how she healed Nearly-Headless Nick [COS18].
· Fixed Malfoy's arm after Buckbeak attacked him [POA6].
· Cured Harry after he fell 50 feet from his broom during a Quidditch match [POA9].
· Took care of Ron, Hermione, and Harry after they confronted Pettigrew in the Shrieking Shack [POA21].
· Removed the beards from Fred, George, Miss Fawcett, and Mr. Summers when they tried to illegally enter the Triwizard Tournament [GOF16].
· Returned Hermione's teeth to normal size following an accident with a Densaugeo spell [GOF18].
· Tended wounds from dragons that were inflicted during the Triwizard Tournament [GOF20].
· Reattached Eloise Midgen's nose after it was cursed off [GOF33].
· Healed Mad-Eye Moody after he was locked in his own trunk for months [GOF35].
· Cared for Winky after she saw Barty Crouch Jr. [GOF36].
· Took care of Harry after Cedric died [GOF36].
· Fixed Katie Bell's nosebleed after she ate one of Fred and George's Blood Blisterpods [OOTP14].
· Cured Alicia Spinnet when the opposing team hexed so that her eyebrews grew so thick and fast they obscured her vision and obstructed her mouth [OOTP19].
· Cured Montague after he turned up jammed inside of a toilet on the fourth floor [OOTP28].
· Mended Ginny's ankle after the battle in the Ministry of Magic [OOTP38].
· Returned Neville's nose to normal size and shape after the battle in the Ministry of Magic [OOTP38].
· Applied Dr. Ubbly's Oblivious Unction to Ron's welts where the brain attacked him in the battle in the Ministry of Magic [OOTP38].
· Gave Hermione 10 potions to cure her from the curse Dolohov had used on her during the battle in the Ministry of Magic [OOTP38].
· Healed Ron when he drank poisoned mead on his 17th birthday [HBP19].
· Mended Harry's cracked skull when he fell after McLaggen hit him during a Quidditch match [HBP19].
· Took care of Malfoy after Harry cursed him with Sectumsempra [HBP24].
· Cared for Bill Weasley after he was attacked by the werewolf, Fenrir Greyback [HBP29].
