School Song
The Hogwarts school song was sung at the end of Harry's first start-of-year
feast. Professor Dumbledore conjured a golden ribbon that twisted into words
for the pupils to follow and then asked each person to pick any tune and sing
the song. The resultant cacophony ended up as an unlistenable noise with everybody
singing in different keys, at different speeds, and finishing at different times. Notably, the Weasley twins sang along to the tune of a slow funeral march [PS/SS7].
Here is the Hogwarts School Song:
"Hogwarts, Hogwarts, Hoggy Warty Hogwarts,
Teach us something please,
Whether we be old and bald,
Or young with scabby knees,
Our heads could do with filling,
With some interesting stuff,
For now they're bare and full of air,
Dead flies and bits of fluff,
So teach us things worth knowing,
Bring back what we've forgot,
Just do your best, we'll do the rest,
And learn until our brains all rot."
[PS/SS7]
Dumbledore called for the singing of the song whenever he was in a particularly buoyant mood [JKR Website].
