Magazines
There are a number of wizarding magazines about which at least
some facts are known. They are:
The Quibbler
A poorly-regarded magazine containing repeated accounts of the sightings of
unlikely creatures (like Crumpled-Horned Snorkacks) and ridiculous stories
about wizarding celebrities. It did break with convention by publishing Rita
Skeeter's interview with Harry, in which he told the truth about the return
of Lord Voldemort [OOTP25]. They were rewarded when this edition became their
biggest seller ever. The Quibbler is edited by Mr. Xenophilius Lovegood,
father of Luna. As The Dark Lord gained more power and influence in months
after Dumbledore's death, The Daily Prophet refused to print stories about
the changes in the wizarding world. However, Xenophilius' once laughable little
magazine became the only reliable source for real information to those willing
to stand against Voldemort. On the cover of every issue he declares that it
is everyone's first duty to help Harry Potter [DH20].
Transfiguration Today
This is a serious magazine aimed at the dedicated Transfiguration enthusiast.
Harry saw some venerable-looking wizards arguing about articles from this magazine
when he was staying at the Leaky Cauldron in the summer of 1993. Dumbledore was
published in this magazine when he was still in Hogwarts [DH18].
Which Broomstick
A magazine for the Quidditch player and anybody who is interested in flying.
"Which Broomstick" is a product-based magazine designed to provide
its readership with the best information available about new broomsticks on
the market. As such they flight-test products and provide information about
performance, pricing, etc.
Witch Weekly
A magazine for the middle-aged witch, concentrating on Gilderoy Lockhart,
recipes and romance gossip, probably in that order. Molly Weasley is a regular
reader, although she'll claim to anyone prepared to listen that it's not for
the Lockhart articles. Rita Skeeter published an article in this magazine
claiming that Harry and Hermione had been together but Hermione had broken
his heart, which seems fairly typical of its content (in terms of both triviality
and lack of accuracy) [GOF9]. They also famously run an annual Most-Charming Smile
award, which usually goes to Lockhart.
