Circa 1200 B.C.
Trojan War with the Greeks. The witch Circe, mentioned on today's Chocolate
Frog Cards, was powerful at this time, and stories passed down from the period
contain early Muggle mentions of Mermaids, or Sirens.
382 B.C.
According to the claim on the shop sign, the first Ollivander to go into the wand-making business (a long-distant ancestor of the current Mr Ollivander) started selling wands in this year.
Circa Mid-10th Century A.D.
Circa 5th Century A.D.
Arthurian times, when Merlin (as in the Order of Merlin) and Morgana, also on
the Chocolate Frog Cards, were practising magic most impressively.
Circa Mid-10th Century A.D.
· Great wizards and witches Godric Gryffindor, Rowena Ravenclaw, Helga
Hufflepuff, and Salazar Slytherin founded the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft
and Wizardry. They placed their school in a castle in the North of Britain,
and made it unplottable for safety reasons.
· Each co-founder had their own 'house' within the castle and could choose
which students would populate it based on the attributes each respective co-founder
valued most. Gryffindor took the bravest students into his house, Ravenclaw
took the smartest, Hufflepuff choose the most kind-hearted, and Slytherin looked
for ambitious students to join his house.
962 A.D.
Earliest recorded use of brooms for (very uncomfortable) flying.
Circa Mid- to Late 10th Century A.D.
· Salazar Slytherin fought with the other co-founders of Hogwarts because
he felt only children of witches and wizards should be allowed into the school.
· Slytherin ultimately quit his post, though he left behind a hidden
Basilisk in the Chamber of Secrets as a token of his affection.
Circa Late-10th Century A.D.
· Hengist of Woodcroft founded the town of Hogsmeade near the new school, as a
haven from Muggles.
· Helena Ravenclaw stole her mother's diadem and fled to Albania, where she was followed by a former unsuccessful suitor, who later became known as "The Bloody Baron". In his fury at once again being rejected by her, he murdered her and then killed
himself.
